Take a second to analyze your team and at the very least, remove these overrated IDP players from your starting lineup in week 4. Big names don’t always mean big fantasy points when it comes to IDP. This week we take a look at players who are overrated and/or are underproducing so owners should consider finding a better option to start every week. Some of these players need to be dropped in most formats while others can be kept in deeper leagues, but take a good look at what’s available on the waiver wire and via the trade block.
Bernard Pollard, SS, Baltimore Ravens – It’s a shame Pollard isn’t starting at the moment because he had 81 solo tackles in each of the last two season with the Texans. But it is what it is. As long as he’s backing up Tom Zbikowkski, (I know what you’re thinking. Who?) consider Pollard useless in IDP leagues until further notice. Drop him unless you have a ridiculously big bench and use the roster spot to stockpile talent like St. Louis’ Quintin Mikell or Kenny Phillips of the New York Giants.
John Abraham, DE, Atlanta Falcons – You wouldn’t want to drop Abraham in deep leagues, but don’t consider him a No. 1 option anymore even in shallow leagues. The 12-year pro bounced back last year with 13 sacks after recording only 5.5 in 2009 and will likely have only a couple big games this season. It’s best to try and find a younger player with more upside at this point in their career. Washington’s Ryan Kerrigan was mentioned in this week’s Fantasy Couch video and is a great pickup because he should get close the same, if not more sacks than Abraham and put up more consistent tackle stats.
A.J. Hawk, LB, Green Bay Packers – It seems as though teammate and fellow inside linebacker Desmond Bishop is going to claim the lion’s share of tackles while Hawk gets the scraps this year. Hawk’s numbers have been underwhelming so far this season with five solo and four assists compared to Bishop’s 27 stops (22 solo) respectively, after three games. Hawk is an asset to the Packers’ defense because he takes on the blocker(s) and his teammates earn the notch on the stat sheet. This trend will likely continue, although he is certain to have a few big games, so find a better and more consistent option in terms of IDP, like Buffalo’s Nick Barnett or Atlanta’s Sean Weatherspoon.
