Fantasy Football Start ’em Sit ’em Week 5

We are a quarter of the way through the fantasy football season and this feels like one of the weirdest seasons in recent memory. The bellcow running back is a thing of the past, replaced by committees and far outscored by the wide receiver position. Tight ends not named Kelce and Andrews are a wasteland and quarterbacks have been largely disappointing, with Jared Goff and Geno Smith having renaissance years.

The lesson here is that fantasy football is largely an unpredictable endeavor, so whoever can minimize their mistakes the best will usually come out on top. Of course, it will take a little luck avoiding the injury department in order to get to the finish line. Good fortune favors those who prepare early and can best predict what the future holds.

JK Dobbins – Ravens RB

After missing the first 2 games of the season and getting only a handful of touches in Week 3, Dobbins owners were rewarded with a surprising 2 TD performance against a tough Bills D in Week 4. This unsuspected outburst proved that Dobbins is back to his high-scoring ways, and is a good indicator of his talent moving forward.

The only downside is Dobbins may have suffered a chest-injury and is currently being held out of practice. Assuming he is good to go and will play, I predict another positive game script where he will be called upon to get into the end zone against the rival Bengals.

JK Dobbins Week 5 Projections: 17 rushing attempts, 89 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD, 6 receptions, 33 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD

Week 5 Sit ’em

Kyle Pitts – Falcons TE

Well I have finally reached the end of the road with Pitts, and can no longer start him blindly every week in good faith. After another dud in Week 4 against the Browns where he only caught 1 pass for 25 yards and no TD’s, it is time for Pitt’s truthers to face the music and find alternative options fast before it’s too late.

I have since picked up David Njoku and Tyler Conklin in two leagues where I drafted Pitts, and will start them this week until he shows that can string together at least 2 decent outings. Against a stout Bucs D in Week 5, I don’t see the arrow pointing up for the second year bust.

Kyle Pitts Week 5 Projections: 5 targets, 2 receptions, 23 receiving yards, 0 TD’s
