Fantasy Football Start ’em Sit ’em Week 2 (2019)

After seeing post after post about their Week 1 shortcomings, I have only two words that in my experience you should always abide by. DON’T PANIC. I repeat…DO NOT PANIC!

If you are an inexperienced player, your first reaction is that your Week 1 loss to your grandmother is the end of the world. You will try to sell low on proven fantasy commodities such as Mike Evans and Davante Adams, two elite wideouts who were uncharacteristically awful in their first game.

Or the Gurley and Mixon owners who are almost certainly disappointed in their pedestrian debuts. Malcolm Brown got all the valuable goalline work for the Rams, which makes him the preferred handcuff over Darrell Henderson who was widely over-drafted.

Mixon, who usually misses at least a handful of games a year, tweaked an ankle and could likely miss Week 2 against a much-improved 49ers defense. Gio Bernard is likely available in your league; if he is, then go grab him now!

If for some miracle in your league the GOAT himself Tom Brady is still available and you have the number one waiver priority…well, you know what to do!

Week 2 Start ’em

Cooper Kupp – Rams WR

Kupp was a favorite target of Jared Goff against the Panthers, targeted 10 times resulting in 7 catches. This is a good sign if you drafted Kupp, who is coming off an ACL injury that sidelined him for the final 6 games of 2018 (knock on wood if you’re with me).

Their Week 2 matchup pits against the Saints, who are coming off an epic win against the Houston Texans, which is already an instant classic. The Saints defense is much improved with the addition of Cameron Wake, but the Rams simply have too many weapons to be stifled on offense. Kupp will emerge as the high volume playmaker for head coach Sean McVay’s best chance to beat Cool Brees in front of the Hollywood elite.

Cooper Kupp Week 2 Projections: 14 targets, 11 receptions, 89 receiving yards, 2 receiving TD’s

Week 2 Sit ’em

Tyler Boyd – Bengals WR

Boyd is likely a solid FLEX play as a locked in WR3, but his matchup could be deceiving to those who didn’t notice a new look 49ers defense putting the crab claws on Jameis Winston and the Bucs offense in their week 1 victory. Richard Sherman looks fully healthy and up for the challenge of shutting down the much-hyped Boyd, much like he did with Mike Evans.

The gameplan for the 49ers might be to let Bengals 3rd year wideout John Ross prove that his week 1 performance wasn’t a fluke. Boyd will get targets and will likely catch a handful of passes, but I like the upside of players with better matchups like Josh Gordon or Tyrell Williams ahead of Boyd.

Tyler Boyd Week 2 Projections: 9 targets, 5 receptions, 72 yards, 0 TD’s
