Fantasy Football Start ’em Sit ’em Week 2 (2018)

Week 1 was as wild and unpredictable an opening weekend as I have seen in recent memory. Thankfully there was not a lot of injuries to star players (Delanie Walker, Greg Olsen and Doug Baldwin are the biggest casualties) and we even saw the Browns somehow break their 14-year opening game losing streak by not actually winning.

As far as last week’s prediction’s go, I was spot on with Jimmy G getting his first ever loss as a starter against the Vikings and Jarvis Landry getting a handful of receptions for over 100 yards (I missed on the 2 TD’s). If you lost your first game don’t panic! This is the week to bounce back and use your shiny new waiver pickups to come back strong and get the W.

Week 2 Start ’em

Alex Smith – Wsh QB

Smith has left the comfortable confines of Andy Reid’s offense and is now the new quarterback in the nation’s capital. He is coming off a solid Week 1 performance against the Cardinals with 2 TD’s and now gets the Colts at home, who may very well have the worst secondary in the league.

Smith should throw plenty of checkdown passes to Chris Thompson who will get plenty of open field running room. He also has a healthy Jordan Reed as his main weapon in the red zone, something that shouldn’t be taken for granted given Reed’s injury history and talent level. Smith should also get a handful of rushing attempts which will make him a Top 3 QB play in Week 2.

Alex Smith Week 2 Projections: 333 yards passing, 2 passing TD’s, 10 rushes, 55 rush yards, 1 rush TD

Week 2 Sit ’em

Ryan Fitzpatrick – TB QB

With Jameis Winston suspended for the first 4 games of the season, the Bucs turned to Harvard-educated journeyman quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick against a New Orleans defense that digressed dramatically since last season’s Top 10 finish.

This week he gets the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles who put the clamps on Matt Ryan and Julio Jones in the end zone in Week 1. With his top aerial weapon DeSean Jackson dealing with injuries, he will have to rely heavily on 2nd year wideout Chris Godwin as Mike Evans will surely get increased coverage from the safety. As par for the course, I predict the Fitzmagic will fizzle out in Week 2.

Ryan Fitzpatrick Week 2 Projections: 285 yards passing, 2 passing TD’s, 2 INT’s
