Fantasy Football Disappointments and Fails for Week 1

There are few things more exciting than Week 1 of the football season, until at about noon on the first Sunday when you already feel like you lost your fantasy football matchup. DeSean Jackson and Sammy Watkins’ owners can relate as both wideouts laid goose eggs in the early games with injury and ineffectiveness, respectively.

Maybe you started questioning your draft by the time your top running back like C.J. Anderson and/or LeSean McCoy didn’t pan out as planned. Then there are guys like Chris Ivory, Bishop Sankey and Danny Woodhead starring in the sports ticker and you start flipping back-and-forth between Lingerie Football League highlights.

Ok, maybe not all of us have premium cable, but it felt like some of the premier players were killing us, right?

Instead it felt like the Week of the Tight End as names like Travis Kelce, Tyler Eifert and Austin Seferian-Jenkins were going off with each having two-touchdown efforts. All the while Odell Beckham Jr., A.J. Green, Calvin Johnson and Demaryius Thomas underwhelmed owners who used high draft picks on players who will be better the rest of the season. At least you didn’t take Dez Bryant and his broken foot that will reportedly have him on the sideline for at least a month, or maybe you did.

Then there are those of you who were all hyped up on Davante Adams once Jordy Nelson blew out his knee in the preseason. Just so happens a familiar face in James Jones stole the show with a pair of touchdown receptions making for a coveted waiver target in the process. Jones made some money in Oakland last year while disappearing from the fantasy scene to only be cut by the Giants this preseason. Adams did have four catches on a team-high eight targets, so the hype could still be real on the second-round pick out of Fresno State.

Titans’ rookie Marcus Mariota outscored both the Manning brothers in standard scoring leagues with four touchdown passes in the first half in a win over Jameis Winston and the Buccaneers. Peyton couldn’t get a grip on the ball supposedly and Eli couldn’t grasp the fact that it is perfectly fine to tell your running back to score a touchdown if the opportunity presents itself. The Giants could have used James Jones considering Preston Parker was a trending topic on Twitter because of his drive-killing dropped passes.

And to top it all off on Monday night, the 49ers took Adrian Peterson out back to the whooping shed with just 31 yards on 10 carries. It is time to go before we start getting too much hate mail.
