This week marks the championship matchup in most fantasy leagues and owners should take a couple things into consideration. One school of thought is to continue to start the same defensive players who put you got you to this point and that is not a bad idea at all. The other through process is to make minor tweaks and adjustment to your lineup to improve your squad.

The waiver wire is likely thin and most guys who may still be available have already been mentioned in past IDP articles. There are a few guys worth consideration as pickups if they are available.

2013 Fantasy Football IDP Week 16 Waiver Pickups

Harrison Smith, Min FS

The Vikings welcomed back their talented free safety last week after he missed eight games with severe turf toe. Smith tallied six solo tackles and two assists in a win over the Eagles, 48-30. The former first-round pick in 2012 had a standout season as a rookie and was one of the top defensive backs drafted in most leagues.

Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith

Smith is owned in a lot of leagues as it is, but if you are lucky enough to grab him, don’t hesitate to do so. Minnesota will match up with Cincinnati this weekend and that presents a pretty good matchup.

Lance Briggs, Chi MLB

The veteran has been on the shelf the past seven games with a bum shoulder and his chances of returning against the Eagles this week is optimistic. The Bears certainly need him out there and if he’s healthy, Briggs can make a considerable impact for his team and as your IDP linebacker.

He had been dropped in numerous IDP leagues and there is a chance he’s available in yours. Fantasy owners who need a backer and have room on their roster should add him and continue to monitor his injury status. Briggs was having a great season before he got hurt and potentially has a good matchup this week against the Eagles.
