As promised, here are three great linebackers that you need to pickup ASAP off the waivers. If you look close enough at the waiver wire and at the injury report, you will always find some good players, even if it is week 13 in your fantasy football IDP league. Here are the new, top three defensive players to pickup in IDP.

Week 13 IDP Waiver Pickups – Top 3 LBs

Perry Riley, LB, Washington Redskins – Here is a young linebacker getting the chance to play because he has excelled the past three games and has ousted a veteran for a starting job. Perry Riley is a former Louisiana State Tiger who is getting the chance to play because he recently beat out incumbent starter Rocky McIntosh for his inside linebacker spot. This is an enormous boost to Riley’s value as he has already proven to be a consistent tackler with 18 solo tackles and 16 assists the past three contests. He makes a great play especially in Week 13 against the Jets, and a viable IDP option the rest of the season.

IDP Week 13 - Jonathan Vilma and Jo-Lonn Dunbar

Jo-Lonn Dunbar, LB, New Orleans Saints – Jonathan Vilma’s knee injury has created an opportunity for Dunbar to play middle linebacker on the Saints defense. The former teammate of Matt Ryan at Boston College is a pretty good player with the potential to rack up a bunch of tackles given a good matchup. With 16 tackles and 10 assists in the last three games, Dunbar makes for a good pickup in tackle friendly leagues. It looks as though the Saints will error on the side of caution with Vilma so expect Dunbar to continue to start in the short term. The Saints take on the Lions this week, which could give the linebackers and defensive backs a lot of work to do.

Colin McCarthy, LB, Tennessee Titans – Here is another case of a player making the best of their chance to start in place of an injured teammate. He is a 23-year-old linebacker and former Miami Hurricane with room to grow in terms of potential. McCarthy has been playing in place of Barrett Ruud at middle linebacker the past three games in which he’s registered 22 solo tackles and six assists. Ruud has a nagging groin injury, which could be something that hinders him the rest of the season making McCarthy an interesting addition down the stretch of an IDP season.
