Prospect Mookie Betts to debut on the Red Sox

Many thought that Mookie Betts wouldn’t get called up until September, but the Red Sox made the move to purchase his contact from Triple-A on Saturday. The 21-year-old is a natural middle infielder who can also play in the outfield, which is where he will likely get the most action in Boston. Betts was hitting .345 with eight homeruns, 48 runs batted in and 29 stolen bases between Double and Triple-A this season.

Fantasy owners in all leagues will want to consider adding Betts, who hasn’t even been added to the player pool in some leagues yet. The former fifth-round pick out of high school in 2011 had a swift rise to the Majors with just 276 minor league games under his belt.

The Red Sox are just 36-44 and desperately need a spark and the hope is that Betts will provide it. The team wouldn’t make this move unless the plan was to get the youngster a bunch of playing time, so you should feel good about his potential fantasy value.
